UEFI agFM only drive
Quote from Batfink on 2025-03-05, 2:05 PMHopefully i won't get roasted for this, I have googled and searched for the answer and now I'm not sure if I've been gaslit or imagined it.
I bought book 1 and book 4 and i could have SWORN BLACK AND BLUE that the original description for book 4 included a bit that described how to make a UEFI drive only...as in no legacy, nada, zilch.
I can easily make a legacy only stick and i can make a dual Legacy & UEFI stick, But i really wanted a UEFI only stick as well with none of the e2b legacy stuff on the usb stick.
They're HUGE ebooks , Ive scanned and skimmed and rescanned and reskimmed but i have not been able to find any section that mentions UEFI only.
Did i dream it, Was it wishful thinking ?
If it is in there can somebody throw me a bone and make just give me the page number, or a link to the information that I'm looking for if it exists.
Many Thanks

Quote from SteveSi on 2025-03-05, 2:16 PMWell, it's not intended to be used as a uefi only stick, but I think most functions should work if you just delete the e2b files on the first partition.
You can try renaming the files or folders, e.g. change _iso/dos to _iso/dosxxx. And then see if all functions still work.
It may look for a few files on the first partition however. You will have to experiment. The first agfm menu does only look in the predifined e2b folders for payload files though.

Quote from Batfink on 2025-03-05, 2:26 PMWow, That was really quick, So the verdict is in , I dreamed it. 🙂
Thank you for the quick reply.
I'll go through slowly dropping files and dirs into a temp dir bit at a time.
Would destroying the boot sectors on the first partition do anything, Or converting the first partition to Exfat (to keep >4 gig compatibility) kill off the MBR boot ability ?

Quote from SteveSi on 2025-03-05, 2:35 PMChanging the boot sectors would obviously stop legacy booting. UEFI does not use boot sectors, it boots from files.
Partition 1 is NTFS and so can handle large files. You could change it to exfat if you really want to but I don't see a reason...

Quote from Batfink on 2025-03-05, 2:45 PMOk, Thanks, I'll experiment with removing the active stamp off the first partition and removing certain files and dirs to see what clutter i can remove and not break the UEFI.
Mainly this is because once or twice i ran into computers that hated dual boot drives and only supported UEFI but with the MBR present they just wouldn't boot.
Mind you this was very rare.
Many Thanks for your input and time.
