Waiting Problem With Underscore At Startup With agFm
Quote from z3hir on 2024-05-12, 1:43 PMI created a flash usb using e2b, but when I boot my MSI laptop, which is an EFI machine, with this flash, only the underscore "_" appears and nothing happens. I don't know where to start my research, so I don't know what information to provide here, so I thought I should start by posting my problem in the forum. If you specify what kind of information I should provide, I will add it all in my next post. Thanks in advance.

Are you using the BIOS Select Boot menu (usually you get to it by pressing F8 or a similar key)?
Are you selecting EFI USB Partition 2 as the bootable partition?
Have you tried disabling Secure Boot in BIOS options?

Quote from z3hir on 2024-05-12, 2:14 PMHi @steve6375,
I have tried both with UEFI partition 1 and partition 2 using the boot menu, both with the same result. It stays on standby.
When I go into the BIOS menu using the Del key and check secure boot, I get something like this:
sorry for the picture quality.

Quote from SteveSi on 2024-05-12, 2:51 PMOk, so no secure boot.
Did you add agFM for UEFI support when prompted by e2b installer?
Do you have /EFI/boot/bootx64.efi file present on partition 2 of the usb drive?
Ok, so no secure boot.

Quote from z3hir on 2024-05-12, 3:00 PMYes when I was using Make_E2B.exe and it asked me if agFM should be used, I said yes and agFM was installed on partition2.
When I checked if the file you mentioned exists, I saw that it does.
By the way, let me add another detail that I forgot to add. I tried it on a few different machines. I had no problem with other UEFI machines (such as HP, Asus) and agFM worked without any problems. However, I only get this problem on the machine in question. I think the problem is machine related.

Quote from SteveSi on 2024-05-12, 3:05 PMOk, Must be specific to that bios then.
Does it have latest version?
I would try bios reset to defaults, disable fast boot, disable secure boot and try again.
If still no luck try using . imgptn23 files instead of Isos?
Also, have you tried a Ventoy usb drive? Just to see if it has same issue?

Quote from Dilidonas on 2024-09-01, 2:34 PMHey, I am having the same issue while trying to boot from my MSI laptop. Is there any solutions for this issue? I updated the BIOS to the latest versions, disabled secure and fast boot.

Quote from SteveSi on 2024-09-01, 4:13 PMDo you mean you are UEFI booting but it does not load the agfM menu system?
If so, try different different PCs or try a different USB drive.

Quote from Dilidonas on 2024-09-02, 5:31 PMYes, when trying to boot from USB it just hangs on a black screen with an underscore, it does not even blink.
I tried to boot on different PCs - works normal elsewhere. I also tried to boot from different USB ports.
The laptop model I tried to boot is MSI Modern 15.

Quote from SteveSi on 2024-09-02, 10:40 PMI guess you could try updating the BIOS and changing the bios config settings, especially those concerned with secure boot and UEFI.
Also check for boot settings which might block booting from an external usb device, etc
If other pcs work then must be a bios specific issue.
