No hard disk found (Windows XP)
Quote from Deleted user on 2022-06-03, 10:31 PMHello,
I've been busy trying to install Windows XP Professional SP3 32-bit on a Toshiba Satellite C55D-C from 2015 (it still had drivers for XP). At the moment I'm stuck because the setup cannot find a hard drive on the laptop. It has an SSD, but I'd been told E2B already installs drivers for that, and that's what it tells me on the laptop.
How do I fix this issue?

Are you saying you watched the videos, made an e2b usb drive using the dpms download of e2b, added one of the recommended xp iso files and tried to install XP but you could not detect a hard disk?

What is the PCI ID of your mass storage controller as reported in the UTILITIES menu? 'List Mass Storage Controller PCI IDs'
What exactly is the SSD drive that you have fitted and what interface does it use?
Can you see the SSD drive listed by the BIOS configuration menu?
Are you using one of the recent recommended XP ISOs in my list of 'Tested ISOs' - if so which one?
The more detailed info you can give me the better...

Quote from Deleted user on 2022-06-04, 8:58 AMYes, I mean ahcix86.
It lists a PCI/VEN_1022&DEV_7801&SUBSYS_F8451179&CC_010601&REV_39
I have a "Samsung MZNLN128HCGR-00000(S1)" SSD
I don't see the actual model name in the BIOS. I just see a generic SSD/HDD option.
I don't know, I just got this one: https://archive.org/details/WinXPProSP3x86

Quote from SteveSi on 2022-06-04, 9:08 AMah - it is an M.2 card, not a SATA SSD so that might be the problem. M.2 was not invented when XP was around and there may not be a modern XP driver for it.
So when you use the UTILITIES - List matching XP DriverPack.ini entries
Is it AMD AHCI Compatible RAID SB8xx/SB9xx (WXP)
what driver is listed?
if the BIOS has an option for RAID, make sure it is disabled (or reset BIOS to defaults).

Quote from Deleted user on 2022-06-04, 9:21 AMThe driver listed is PCI\VEN_1022&DEV_7801&CC_0106"="ahci886x" ; D/M/AM-8 "ahcix86.sys" "AMD AHCI Compatible RAID SB8xx/SB9xx (WXP)"
I don't know if there's a proper BIOS on my laptop. It just takes me to the Toshiba Setup Utility, which doesn't have a lot of options like a proper BIOS. I loaded setup defaults but it doesn't work. How would I enter the proper BIOS and skip Toshiba Setup Utility?

I asked if you used a recommended XP ISO and you said YES - it now seems you did not use a recommended ISO!

Quote from Deleted user on 2022-06-04, 9:56 AMHmm, apparently the Setup Utility is the BIOS. There's no option to turn off RAID on the BIOS.
I tried the iso you recommended but yeah without the right drivers it won't work.

Quote from SteveSi on 2022-06-04, 11:05 AMOK - lets try that driver
https://1drv.ms/u/s!AqlrQcdsFA-K8E_rEqvchxNtCiRq?e=NUACad
Download this zip file
replace the existing "\_ISO\e2b\grub\DPMS\DriverPack.ini" on the E2B USB drive with the one inside
Then go to the \_ISO\e2b\grub\DPMS\D\M\AM\8 folder on the E2B USB drive...
You will see some .inf, .sys, .cat and txtsetup.oem files for ahcix86.
delete those files (or place in a new folder if you want to keep them for later) and then extract the AM8.zip file which is inside the download so you add new files into the 8 folder so \_ISO\e2b\grub\DPMS\D\M\AM\8 folder will now contain the 5 new files rcraid.* and the new txtsetup.oem.
Now boot to E2B and try the UTILITIES - List matching XP DriverPack.ini entries menu
does it list AMD AHCI Compatible RAID SB8xx/SB9xx (WXP-RAID) ??
If so, try another XP install

You need to boot from the E2B USB drive again and run XP install step 2
That is why there is step 1 and step 2...
P.S. Which ISO file worked and which one didnt work (details... details... !!!)

Quote from Deleted user on 2022-06-04, 12:06 PMThe one I got off the Internet Archive was the one that worked in the end. When it detected my SSD it all went smoothly, except for it not recognising the sound driver and such.
Follow-up problem: I can't get the drivers (the ones from that link I sent you) to install.

Use official drivers ?
Select Windows XP 32-bit first

Quote from SteveSi on 2022-06-04, 1:03 PMyour guess is as good as mine!
Notebook drivers are usually very manufacturer specific so its best to use the ones they provide.
make sure it says XP.
The audio driver is 13-12_xp32_dd_ccc.zip\13-12_xp32_dd_ccc\setup.exe - since I dont have the same notebook I cant test it.
For the hotkey driver, try right-clicking on the .INF file and choose install? It does seem strange it covers all OS's though ? Windows 10 32 bit, Windows 8.1 32bit, Windows 7 32bit, Windows Vista 32bit, Windows XP 32bit
You could try downloading Snappy Driver Origin
https://www.snappy-driver-installer.org/
run it on your XP Tosh and then just download the audio drivers (it wont have hotkey drivers for notebooks AFAIK).

Quote from Deleted user on 2022-06-04, 2:27 PMWell, the audio drivers in that folder don't work despite seemingly installing properly, the hotkey drivers don't seem to do anything and Snappy Driver Origin can't find drivers for anything because my laptop isn't connected to the internet.

Quote from SteveSi on 2022-06-04, 2:33 PMYou can run snappy from the usb drive on any connected windows system, and download all audio XP drivers, just don't press the button to start installation. Then connect the usb drive to the xp system and run snappy from there.
E2b already has a version of snappy on it. You can run it from a win10 system, update it and download XP drivers.
